In the name of God Amen I Sarah WILMOT of Downend in the parish of Mangotsfield in the county of Gloucester widow do hereby make my last will and testament in manner following (that is to say) First I recommend my soul to God Almighty who gave it me and my body to the earth to be decently buried in the parish church of St. Werburgh in the city of Bristol as was my father and mother as may be at the discretion of my executor and executrix hereinafter named

Whereas my son Robert WILLMOTT is at the hind of making this my last will and testament confused by being disordered in his senses and not of sound mind memory or understanding nor capable of managing himself or his affairs and is by law entitled to such estate as I shall leave behind in intail therefore that my said son should at any time hereafter recover his said senses and come to his right understanding so as to be capable of managing himself and his own affairs I hereby give devise and bequeath unto my said son Robert WILLMOTT all my estate whatsoever and wheresoever and hereby make him sole executor of this my last will

and I give ten pounds to my sister Mary DAY hereinafter mentioned to buy her mourning

And I also give to my brother Robert (EARLE?) esquire to buy him mourning

But in case my said son Robert shall continue in the disordered condition he is now in and not recover to his right senses I request and desire and I hereby declare it to be my will intent and .... that my sister Mary DAY widow late wife of John DAY of the city of Bristol esquire deceased and Revd. Dr. Samuel CRESWICKE now dean of Bristol and Mr. Samuel ADAMS of the same city grocer shall be trustees to and guardians of my said son during such his disorder and confinement

And it is my will and .... and I do hereby appoint my said sister Mary DAY in the first place to have and take upon her .... the custodyship and guardianship of my said son during her life and to find and provide for him all manner of necessaries fit and correct for a person in his condition out of my estate so far as aforsaid hereby given bequeathed to my said son

And in case my said son shall die in the lifetime of my said sister Mary DAY .... I hereby give devise and bequeath unto my said sister Mary DAY all such my said estate hereinbefore given devised and bequeathed to my said .... to be at her own disposal

And I hereby make and appoint her to be executrix of this my said last will and testament she my said sister Mary DAY pay my .... legacies out of my said estate and wherewith I .... hereby .... my said estate to such person persons as are hereinafter .... as legatees but in case my said sister Mary DAY shall die and my said son shall survive then my will and .... is and I hereby appoint the said Mr. Dean CRESWICKE and Mr. Samuel ADAMS and the survivor of them to be trustees and guardians of my said son Robert WILLMOTT and out of the interest income and produce of my said estate so bequeathed to my said son as aforesaid to find and provide for him all manner of necessaries fit and proper for him in such his condition and I herby direct that the said Mr. Dean CRESWICKE and the said Mr. ADAMS shall out of my said estate pay and reimburse to the .... all .... or sums of money as he or they shall have laid out or expended for and on the behalf of my said son

And if my said son shall die whilst he shall be under the guardianship of the said Mr. Dean CRESWICKE and the said Mr. ADAMS it is my will that they shall have and receive to themselves out of my said estate the sum of fifty pounds .... for their care and trouble in and about my said son

And my further will is that in case my said son should not survive or die and my said sister Mary DAY should have and enjoy my said estate .... I herby give devise and bequeath to my niece Mrs Sarah HUTTON widow daughter of Dr. Richard MORETON by Elizabeth my sister deceased the sum of one hundred pounds

Item I give and bequeath to Miss Katherine JACKSON daughter of Nicholas JACKSON esq the sum of fifty pounds I also give and bequeath to the said Miss Katherine JACKSON a quilt and two pillowcases of my own working which I promised to leave her

Item whereas I have for some few years past taken care of and promised to take care of Hemry HOLFORD son of William HOLFORD of Downend aforesaid taylor in pursuance of such promise I will and devise my said sister Mary DAY to lay out and expend forty shillings every year for clothes and schooling for the said boy as long as he properly should go to school and when he is fit to be bound out and apprenticed and shall be apprenticed to his said father I then will that the payment of the said forty shillings a year shall cease and that my said sister DAY pay the said boy only twenty shillings a year during such his apprenticeship to his said father

But in case the said Henry HOLFORD shall not be inclined to take to or like his fathers trade then I give him the sum of twenty pounds to put him apprentice to any master of any trade he shall like better and not to be used otherwise And if the said Henry HOLFORD shall be apprenticed to his said father and shall faithfully serve out his said apprenticeship and afterwards marry then I give him the said twenty pounds to set up his trade withall and not to be applied otherwise

Item In case the said Henry HOLFORD shall die and have no benefit from this my legacy of twenty pounds then I give and bequeath to Mary HOLFORD his mother the sum of five pounds

Lastly I revoke all former wills by me made and declare what is contained and written these three sides of this one sheet of paper to be my last will and testament In witness thereof I have to the last side set my hand and seal this two and twentieth day of December in the ninth year of the reign of our sovereign lord King George the second and in the year of our Lord 1735

Signed sealed published and declared by the testatrix to be her last will and testament in the presence of use who subscribed our names as witnesses in her presence

Proved at Bristol before the Revd. John SUTTON clerk MA lawful surrogate of the Revd. Carew REYNELL DD vicar general upon the oath of Mary DAY widow fiduary executrix named in the said will to whom.. and so forth
